Fine Art in Hebden Bridge
I aim to create scenes that feel half-remembered, at once familiar but also dream-like. I enjoy playing with form and the illusion of detail, transitioning from smooth gradients to sharp lines using thick layers of paint.
Watercolour paints allow me to play with light and shadow in bold ways, creating drama with striking colours and contrast while maintaining a sense of mystery and obscurity.
I seek to continuously examine the boundary between the real and the imagined, employing intuitive and meditative painting methods to create scenes that are seemingly both familiar and distant.
The most rewarding and exciting feedback I receive from clients and visitors is that viewing a painting of mine feels like grasping at a memory of their own.
I take inspiration from my walks and camps in nature; the hills, patchwork fields and sometimes stormy weather surrounding my home in West Yorkshire are particularly close to my heart.
